Barbour Vineyards

Jim Barbour was raised on his family's ranch in Rutherford growing grapes, prunes and apples. When growth in the wine industry began to accelerate, Jim convinced his Dad to plant 5 acres of Chardonnay. The Chardonnay vineyard became more profitable than the rest of the family's business, convincing Jim to pursue the path of grape growing.

He graduated from the University of California-Davis with a Bachelor's Degree in Plant Science (Viticulture) and began a career that would lead him to become one of Napa's most sought-after vineyard managers.

Jim has been farming for over 30 years and planted or maintained such vineyards as Hundred Acre, Grace Family, Blankiet, Pillar Rock, Revana, Casa Piena, Seaver Family, Husic, D.R. Stephens, Barnett, Pride, and Cain, among others.

Barbour Cabernet Sauvignon is his personal project. The vineyard is located in St. Helena just south of town and farmed to Jim's exacting specifications which include dry-farming and using sustainable practices.

He chose Celia Welch as winemaker for his wine. Celia is one of North America's most highly regarded winemakers and has earned a reputation for crafting distinctive wines that express the unique qualities and characteristics of each vineyard.

In the nearly three decades she has been making wine professionally, Celia has contributed greatly to the success of Napa Valley and has or currently works with Staglin Family Vineyard, Scarecrow, Keever Vineyards, Kelly Fleming Wines, Lindstrom, and Hollywood and Vine. Celia also produces wine under her own label, Corra.

From a mere 50 cases produced with its inaugural release in 1995, Barbour Wines has steadily grown to reach its current production of 400 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon.
