NAPA VALLEY VINTNERS AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO LOCAL GRADUATES
6/15/2001 - The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) recently awarded three scholarships, each in the amount of $2,000 to local high school graduates. The first scholarship was awarded to Glenn Gallegos of Napa High School through the NVV's Adopt A High School program. Other scholarships were presented to Noah Ramos, New Technology High School and, Dominic Heil, St. Helena High School.
Now in its eighth year, the NVV created the annual scholarship program to recognize the achievements of outstanding high school seniors in Napa County.
Next year Gallegos, son of Tino and Rochelle Gallegos of Napa, plans to study communications at Sacramento State University and pursue a career in broadcasting. Ramos, the son of Nemesio and Manchel Ramos of American Canyon will attend University of California at Davis to study civil engineering. Heil, son of David and Elena Heil of St. Helena, will study liberal arts with a focus in romance languages and international business at Stanford University.
Award winners were selected on the basis of scholastic ability as well as personal character and, extra-curricular and community involvement. Each candidate was required to have plans to attend a junior college, four-year college or university. An interest in the wine or grape industry was not a primary consideration.
