Stony Hill's Peter McCrea Elected President of Napa Valley Vintners Board of Directors

2/13/2007 - St Helena, Napa Valley, CA - Peter McCrea, owner of Stony Hill Vineyards, has been elected president of the board of directors of Napa Valley Vintners ( NVV), the non-profit trade association of more than 280 member wineries from California's premier winegrowing region. The gavel was passed to McCrea of this prestigious wine industry position from 2006 NVV president, Hugh Davies, president of Schramsberg Vineyards at the association's annual general membership meeting.

McCrea will lead the organization's on-going efforts to protect the Napa Valley Appellation, promote and market the region domestically and internationally and will also preside over the board of directors of Auction Napa Valley, the classic American charity wine auction held each June. Along with his fellow vintners, he will keep Napa Valley on the leading edge of enforcing the state's truth in labeling laws, champion environmental causes like sustainable agriculture and watershed protection, and continue the association's programs to provide adequate and quality farm worker housing.

2007 is already shaping up as a busy one for McCrea as the association's achievements year to date include being recognized as "Business of the Year," by the Napa Chamber of Commerce, Auction Napa Valley being recognized as "Best Wine Country Event," in the annual publication "Best Of... ," a phenomenal first-ever market blitz of New York City (click here for press release), a record setting sell-out of the mid-winter barrel auction Premiere Napa Valley, and association membership at an all-time high.

Stony Hill Vineyards was planted in 1947 by Peter's parents Fred and Eleanor McCrea on Spring Mountain, 600 feet above the valley floor. Peter and his wife Willinda continue the family tradition of making classic Chardonnay from this renowned vineyard on the western slope of the Napa Valley. The winery is celebrating its 55th vintage this year and the McCrea's children Fred and Sarah are actively involved as the third generation of this beautiful hillside wine estate.

Also serving on the NVV board of directors for 2007 are vice president, Stephen Corley, Monticello Vineyards; chief financial officer, Rick Jones, Jones Family Vineyards; secretary, Karen Cakebread, Terrano Napa Valley; Cyril Chappellet, Chappellet Winery and Vineyard; Paula Kornell, Oakville Ranch; Kathleen Heitz Myers, Heitz Wine Cellars; Ed Matovcik, Beringer Vineyards; Alex Ryan, Duckhorn Wine Company, Tracey Skupny, Lang & Reed Wine Company; and Pat Stotesbury, Ladera Vineyards.

Now in our seventh decade, the NVV non-profit trade association is the sole organization responsible for promoting and protecting the Napa Valley Appellation as a winegrowing region second to none in the world. Respect for our history reinforces our commitment to the preservation and enhancement of the Valley's land, wine, and community for future generations. We address the shared interests of our more than 280 members and aspire to be the essential organization for all Napa Valley vintners.
