It's SpringHealthy Vineyards + Healthy Oceans Makes A Great Partnership!

What do vineyards in Napa Valley and racing catamarans that sail at three times the speed of wind have in common? For the best sailors on the fastest boats seeking to capture the 34th America's Cup (AC) next year and vintners in Napa Valley it's a common goal of having one's livelihood be—whether it's winegrowing or racing boats—a model of environmental leadership.

This is one of the core reasons why the Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) and the Napa Valley Destination Council have partnered to be the official wine region of the 34th AC. Napa Valley as the premier wine region, and the AC is sailing's oldest and most prestigious competition, both are walking the walk in their commitment to leaving a positive environmental legacy.

Napa vintners and growers have built upon groundbreaking conservation initiatives like the Ag Preserve, hillside farming and stream setbacks restrictions, as well as the Winery Definition Ordinance, capping it all off with Napa Green Certified Land and Winery programs that find our region leading the industry in the most comprehensive environmental best-practices. Napa Green, largely based on Fish Friendly Farming, works to ensure healthy rivers with sustainable fish populations—the premise that everything upstream defines the waterway's health. Reduced or eliminated pesticides, cover crops for soil stabilization and repair of riparian environments are just some examples of the program.

It makes sense that our partners who sail the seas would create a leading-edge program. The AC Healthy Ocean Project embraces the direct connection between sailing and the ocean. As the Napa River finds its way to the bay and the ocean, the synergy of our programs is clear.

Leveraging the media attention that the AC attracts, the organization is using its Healthy Oceans program to create awareness of the environmental threats to the seas by creating the world's largest ocean literacy program. By increasing the percentage of oceans under protection, encouraging people to consume only sustainable seafood, and reducing the amount of single-use plastic which ends up in the ocean the AC is encouraging individuals to take action and make a real difference.

Cheers to a great partnership, The Napa Valley—the official wine region of the 34th America's Cup!

Napa NeighborWe've got 8 Million Reasons to Celebrate

The Napa Valley Vintners annual community fundraiser Auction Napa Valley brought more than $8 million the first weekend in June for non-profit programs serving healthcare, youth development, and education. The NVV is profoundly grateful to all of our guests, vintners, volunteers, and everyone from near and far who has contributed to make Auction Napa Valley the most celebrated wine auction in the world. The NVV is continually amazed by the incredible support and cheerful "can do" attitude of more than 400 Napa County residents who donated their time and expertise to Auction Napa Valley.

Afternoons in the VineyardReaching for the Educational Skies

As part of the Napa Valley Vintners' commitment to helping Napa County's youth be successful in school, the Napa Valley Vintners awarded a High School Scholarship to Sacramento State-bound Matthew Osivwemu, a recent Napa High School graduate. The NVV received 68 applications and narrowed the field to four students to interview, of which the vintner scholarship committee unanimously selected Matthew as the recipient.

Matthew has been a football, basketball, and track player and has been involved with the Advancement via Individual Determination Program (AVID). Linda Carr from Truchard Vineyards and a member of the scholarship review committee said, "When reviewing Matthew's application I was struck by his ability to maintain a high grade point average while being actively engaged in sports, but mostly I was struck by Matthew's humble nature, his dedication to his education, his excitement about attending Sacramento State and what he could achieve with his education."
