Napa Valley Vintners Hosting 22 Key Trade and Media from China

Experience Napa Valley educational immersion to spotlight more than 50 Napa Valley wineries

8/6/2013 - St. Helena, CA--The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV) trade organization is hosting 22 key wine influencers from China for Experience Napa Valley, a four-day immersion into Napa Valley, its wine, winemakers and vineyards, starting today and running through Friday, August 9.

Throughout the program, highly regarded Chinese sommeliers, educators, media, retailers and hotel and restaurant professionals will interact with winemakers and principals from more than 50 NVV member wineries and will taste more than 100 different Napa Valley wines. Guided tastings, panel discussions and in-the-vineyard experiences will cover a wide range of topics, including a Cabernet Sauvignon tasting and panel discussion; a casual BBQ dinner spotlighting Napa Valley AVAs; discussion about innovations in irrigation and canopy management; an Asian-fusion lunch featuring Napa Valley white and rosé wines; in-depth explorations of Napa Valley's terrain and terroir; and meals featuring Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, library and sparkling wines.

"There is nothing like meeting our vintners, exploring our vineyards and tasting our wines while taking in the unique beauty that is Napa Valley for our Chinese guests to become lifelong ambassadors for our wine region," noted Linda Reiff, executive director of the NVV.

Experience Napa Valley is one of numerous initiatives the NVV has created to engage, educate and inspire wine professionals in China, the world's fastest growing wine market. In addition to working year-round with industry consultants in China who help the NVV develop relationships and meet educational and media relations objectives, the association has organized numerous visits over the past 15 years taking member wineries to the market to host tastings, educational seminars and social events. In November 2012, after a long and complex series of meetings with Chinese officials, Napa Valley was the first wine region outside of China to be granted Geographic Indication (GI) status, providing the pivotal element in consumer protection against wines illegitimately labeled as being from Napa Valley.
