Napa Vintners Surpass New Milestone in Membership

6/14/2011 - St Helena, CA--The Napa Valley Vintners (NVV), the non-profit trade association of Napa Valley wineries announces that it has surpassed the 400 member winery milestone with its current roster reaching 408 after new members were approved at its June board of directors meeting.

Since fall of 2008 when the recession began, the NVV has gained 84 new members, an increase of 25% during one of the nation's worst economic crises in history. The strength of the appellation's renown and the collective value of collaborative marketing have proven to be just two of the association's most compelling reasons for membership.

The NVV's member resources, business workshops and training programs are some of the other highly-valued programs for members based on ongoing surveys.

Independent industry analysts report that the membership represents more than 90 percent of the production of all Napa Valley appellation wines. The vintner community is a model for successful family farming in America as 95% of member wineries are family-owned. The association is a collaboration of large and small producers, but by the numbers, 77 percent of members produce 10,000 cases of wine or less annually--and of the total, 65 percent produce 5,000 cases or fewer each year.

Other Programs by the Numbers
Napa Valley Rocks is the signature training program that vintners host for front line wine trade in on- and off-premise venues across the country and around the world to educate on the unique attributes that set the Napa Valley apart and help wine sellers recommend Napa Valley wines with confidence. More than 400 winemakers, winery principals and wine educators have completed the training session to learn how to effectively interpret the materials and lead the Napa Valley Rocks seminars. Certification of completion of training is required for all presenters.

Leading the wine industry's most comprehensive best-practices for alcohol service in seminars led by former California ABC Director Jerry Jolly, more than 700 NVV member winery staff and special events servers have been certified in the Responsible Beverage Service program. All servers at NVV events like Auction Napa Valley and other signature programs are required to have completed the RBS certification program.
