Charles Krug Winery is throwing a birthday party for everybody's favorite Prussian revolutionary, entrepreneur, and the founder of Napa Valley's first winery - Charles Krug, of course. Special guests at the dinner will include family proprietor Peter Mondavi Jr., Charles Krug winemaker Stacy Clark, and spirit medium Leanne Thomas. The birthday celebration will feature appetizers followed by a seated dinner paired with Charles Krug wines.
Leanne Thomas will attempt to channel Charles Krug himself, to send him birthday wishes in honor of his 187th. Leanne has already visited Charles Krug’s estate in order to get a feel for the historic spaces and she feels confident she made some spirit connections while she was here. With her help, attendees will be able to ask Charles Krug a few questions as long as we've got his attention. How often do you get to wish someone a happy 187th birthday?
While Charles Krug was actually born on March 1, 1825, his 187th birthday party is Saturday, March 3, beginning at 6 p.m. upstairs in the Carriage House. The Carriage House, one of two historic buildings on the winery estate, was built in 1881 to house the horses and carriages owned by Charles Krug’s wife, Carolina.
Charles Krug Winery has been in the Peter Mondavi Family for nearly 70 of its 150 years. The Peter Mondavi Family has recently extensively replanted the winery’s estate vineyards with noble red Bordeaux varietals, and practices sustainable viticulture on their 850 prime Napa Valley acres. Those efforts to steward the land and preserve the winery's historical legacy are earning new respect for a family long identified with California wine.
