Volunteer Guidelines and Responsibilities

Auction Napa Valley 2011
Volunteer Guidelines and Responsibilities

We greatly appreciate your time volunteering for Auction Napa Valley (ANV).  Our volunteers are the foundation of the success of ANV and we thank you for helping us raise nearly $100 million for our community since the first event in 1981.

Below are some simple volunteer responsibilities and guidelines we are asking you to observe. This will help make your volunteer experience at Auction Napa Valley the best it can be:

  • Auction Napa Valley volunteers are required to attend an advance orientation meeting with the appropriate Steering Committee Captain.
  • All volunteers will be issued an event credential and must wear credentials at all times while working the event. Without your credential, you will not be allowed to board the shuttle or access the event.
  • By agreeing to volunteer for Auction Napa Valley, you are making a commitment to the event and we are counting on your participation. If you find you cannot work your assignment, please notify your committee chair immediately so your shift can be filled.
  • All food, wine, dancing, and entertainment at ANV events are for registered guests. As a volunteer, you may enjoy food and beverages served in the volunteer meal area.
  • Because this is a professional wine tasting event, please do not wear perfume or cologne that might distract from the aromas of the wine.
  • Please keep personal items to a minimum by leaving your purses and backpacks at home. Locked storage is not available.
  • Neither full nor partial bottles of wine may be removed from the grounds. Napa County Sherriff will be on hand to confiscate any bottles of wine leaving the property.
  • By law, all volunteers must be at least 21 years of age. No one under 21, including infants and toddlers, will be admitted to any ANV functions.
  • Volunteers exhibiting inappropriate behavior will be asked to leave the event immediately.

Responsible Hospitality
The Napa Valley Vintners understands that hospitality is important to Napa County. Hospitality is the art of making customers, guests and friends feel welcome, comfortable, and safe. Responsible hospitality means thoughtful, practical planning for our guests' well being. Our goal is to promote responsible beverage service, practices and programs while recognizing the economic viability of hospitality events.

The Napa Valley Vintners have taken the following preventative steps and made the following services available to all ANV guests to assist with responsible hospitality:

    • Food, water and coffee service is available at all times during the Auction events for guests and volunteers
    • Responsible Hospitality Training of staff and volunteers who are directing serving wines
    • Complimentary taxi service is available upon departure at all events

How you can assist with Responsible Hospitality
State beverage laws are established to hold the person serving alcoholic beverages to intoxicated person responsible. Depending on the nature of case, this can result in legal charges to the server. We appreciate your efforts in assisting with responsible hospitality at ANV by becoming an advocate for responsible service by:

    • Pouring one ounce pours for all tastings
    • Becoming familiar with the signs of intoxication and not serving anyone that exhibits these signs .
    • Notify appropriate personnel if you encounter or come across a person who appears to be intoxicated (see below for list of signs).
    • If you come into contact with a person who appears to be intoxicated, please notify either your Steering Committee Captain or Chair or contact Event Security immediately.
